About ScaledGuide

A field journal for the curious — covering the animals most people fear and few truly understand.

What this site is

ScaledGuide exists for one reason: there's a lot of bad snake information online, and a lot of good snake information locked up in textbooks, academic journals, and the collective experience of long-time keepers who never get asked. We try to bridge that gap. Clear, honest writing for people who want to understand snakes — whether that's the ball python in their bedroom tank, the garter snake in their garden, or the venomous species they need to identify from a safe distance.

Every article is written with three readers in mind: the beginner who needs the basics without condescension, the intermediate keeper looking for nuance the starter guides skip, and the general reader who just wants reliable information delivered without sensationalism.

Who writes ScaledGuide

ScaledGuide is written by Ahmad T., a writer and nature enthusiast passionate about making snake-related information more accessible. After noticing how much misinformation exists online about snakes — both as pets and as wild animals — Ahmad started this project to compile clearer, research-based guides for people who want to understand rather than fear these animals.

The site combines information from established herpetological sources, veterinary guidelines, experienced keeper communities, and peer-reviewed research. Articles are edited and fact-checked before publication. Where we're uncertain about something, we say so. Where expertise is required — for medical emergencies, complex health issues, or legal questions — we direct readers to appropriate professionals.

Our approach

A few principles guide what we publish:

How we're funded

ScaledGuide is supported by display advertising served through Google AdSense and similar networks. Ads help keep the site free and independent of sponsors who might influence editorial content. We don't accept paid reviews, paid species profiles, or any content that trades editorial judgement for payment. If a product is mentioned in an article, it's because it's genuinely useful — not because someone paid for the mention.
